The numbers from the recent Siena poll confirm what you’re telling me directly: More than half of New Yorkers believe our state is heading in the wrong direction. Why?
Let's break it down:
- Crime: 49% of New Yorkers feel that crime has worsened in the past year, with only 17% seeing any improvement. This is unacceptable. We need to restore safety in our communities and support our law enforcement.
- Migrant Crisis: An overwhelming 83% of voters view the migrant influx as a serious problem, including a significant portion of Democrats. The federal government's mishandling of this issue has left New York struggling, and we need local leaders who will stand up for our state.
- Leadership Approval: Governor Hochul's approval rating has plummeted to 38%, with nearly half of voters disapproving of her performance. The state legislature isn't faring much better, with 51% of voters feeling that lawmakers have failed to improve the quality of life in New York.
Our current leadership has been too focused on maintaining their power rather than addressing the real issues that affect everyday New Yorkers. The Democratic supermajority has failed to pass meaningful legislation that improves our quality of life. Instead, they have been more concerned about appeasing a vocal minority of progressive activists.
The Need for Bail Reform
One of the most glaring issues is the need for bail reform. The current pro-criminal policies have added to the problem, allowing repeat offenders to return to the streets without consequences. This has created a revolving door of crime, undermining the safety of our communities. We need a justice system that holds criminals accountable and protects law-abiding citizens.
